GEELONG RENDEZVOUS

July 2003 -2009
Scribes Writers was formed in 2003 by one of our members, Eileen Sims.

The aim of the group is two fold: to facilitate people's creative writing development and bring them together.
The name Scribes evolved from group member discussion and decision making process.
Soon afterwards the following motto was adopted:

If you can write a letter, you can write a story
If you can write a story, you can write a book

The group meets each Monday from 9.30am to 12 noon at the South Barwon Community centre
33 Mount Pleasant Road, Belmont

During the Senior Festival Scribes Writers have offered workshops to the wider community:
2007: 'Life Stories', facilitated by Susan Kruss
2008: 'Histories and Memorable Memoirs', facilitated by Susan Kruss

In 2006 the group produced an anthology called One For D’ Road: a collection of stories which highlighted
and celebrated the social life and history of the Ford Motor Company and Geelong people.
In December 2008 our current anthology Geelong Rendezvous was launched. It includes stories based on events
which took place in or around Geelong. It is available from Griffiths Book store in Geelong.

Smaller in house publications are also produced with the help of volunteers at SBCC
2007 and 2008: Summer stories: a collection of stories by the Scribes, some of which were published
in Geelong news over the summer season.
2009: For the first time Winter tales will gather stories inspired by winter or colours

Several of our writers submit stories each year to the Seniors Writing Festival.
Members have also written individually. Some of their
stories have been published
in the Geelong Advertiser and the Big Weekend.
