ADAM LINDSAY GORDON
HIS LIFE AND BEYOND
Travis is one of the co-instigators of The Adam Lindsay Gordon Commemorative Committee Inc.
His interest in history began in 1992 when he commenced researching the Brighton General Cemetery (Vic)
where Adam Lindsay Gordon is buried and culminating in 2003 with the launch of his own website
www.brightoncemetery.com and his entry on the Brighton General Cemetery can be seen in
the Encyclopedia of Melbourne (2005).
Travis has compiled a tour of the Brighton Cemetery featuring Gordon and 11 subjects and together
with undertaking research requests for the general public, has raised
over $3,000 for The Adam Lindsay Gordon Restoration Appeal.
In 1997, Travis instigated a community project to transcribe the headstone inscriptions of the
Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery on microfiche, described by the publisher as one of the best of its
kind undertaken in Australia.
Travis inaugurated the formation of the Brighton Cemetorians Inc. (2005-06)
and served as Treasurer and Public Officer as well as being President of the Friends of Cheltenham
and Regional Cemeteries Inc (2007-present).
He previously served on the committees of the Friends of St. Kilda Cemetery
