SPANISH
ADRIANA GARGIULO

Hi everyone, my name is Rita Adriana Gargiulo; I prefer to be called Adriana.
I was born in Buenos Aires (Capital City of Argentina) but grew up in the north of Argentina,
in the province of JUJUY, limit with Bolivia.
I have very lovely memories of growing-up in a place with warm weather, surrounded by mountains and sugar cane.
Most of my education was in a boarding school in the province of Cordoba (1.100 km south from where I lived).
I studied teaching and worked as a teacher in a public school in Jujuy and in a private sector in Buenos Aires
before marrying my Australian husband and migrating to Australia (Melbourne).
While in Melbourne I have taught Spanish in an Argentine school in Glen Waverley while learning English
at Box Hill College of TAFE.
We moved to Queensland and continued teaching Spanish in the Sunshine Coast where I lived for several years.
In 2001, I came to live in the Surf Coast and taught Spanish at different Community Centres
such as Lorne, Anglesea, Torquay, Queenscliff and the GATE Institute of TAFE in Geelong.
As part of my studies in Psychology at Deakin University I enrolled in a few external subjects in Spanish
(native speakers’ stream) at Victoria University (VUT).
I am currently studying the Master of Psychology (Clinical) at Deakin and this year I had my first publication
in an International Psychological Journal “Social Indicators Research’.
Looking back, when I first started learning English with an English dictionary trying to build my vocabulary,
I realise that I have came a long way and certainly feel that is not impossible to learn a new Language.
When I see the tenacity of my students in learning their new Spanish words, with the help of a dictionary,
it brings back memories and I say to myself: -you guys are doing so well,
one day everything will make so much sense.
Do not give up!
Hope you enjoy the Spanish segment that I have prepared in collaboration with my Spanish students.
Hasta pronto…
